Sun Porch: Gone!

Our intrepid project manager/contractor Adam tried to save part of the old sun porch. (If you look at the photo above, you can see the original.) It couldn't be done; there was rot in the ceiling and the floor. Bummer. It's all coming down but will be replaced. One of my favorite rooms in the house.

Progress!

OK, so you're looking from the master bedroom into the closet and bath.  Closet on the left, bath on the right.

The additon! This is the view of the kitchen addition from upstairs.

Back door, which will lead into mudroom.

Figuring out what do to do about this damn porch. We may be able to salvage some of it.

Addition, So fantastic.

Was tempted to climb the ladder. Wrong shoes.

Framing in kitchen, 2nd floor

Woo Hoo! Stuff's happening.
Adam's crew unloads framing materials and plywood for the floors up through the second floor. See that roof of the sun porch where the wood is being uploaded? Will be a master bedroom deck. Someday.

Couldn't get to the backyard with all the equipment blocking both sides of the house. Here is the subflooring of  the addition through the kitchen window.

Pantry, wall ovens in this corner

Plastic stained glass window: gone! This also used to be a door to the driveway.

View of addition subflooring from the second floor.

Unloading lumber. Look how pretty my Japanese maple is.

Very warm on the third floor today, so they opened a window. Couldn't get up there; too much activity.

The beginning of walls!

From the driveway

Isn't that a pretty foundation? The gym will be on the other side of those 2 windows.

Under the addition: storage.

We (i.e., Steve) came up with a plan to cover the storage area with angled slats to allow as much sunlight through the basement windows as possible.

Future closet and bath. Floor ripped up, will be carpeted in the closet.

Decisions, Decisions

Yesterday, we met on site to make decisions vis a vis structure, walls, window placement. We are trying to move into the house late July, so the goal is to finish bedrooms and bathrooms first. While framing the master bath, they will also frame the kitchen addition.

This is where the supporting posts will go for the addition.

We got lumber.

Lots and lots of lumber in the back yard

See those lines? We figuring out the height of the addition.

We just felt like putting Adam on a ladder.

None of us knows what he's talking about.

Back steps and railings.
